War Cloister, Winchester College, Winchester
There is a very close connection between Winchester College and The Royal Green Jackets. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in Winchester College’s War Cloister, built shortly after the First World War.
On the memorial tablets, which carry the names of Wykehamists who died in the two World Wars (513 from WWI and 274 from WWII), there are 118 who served in former regiments of the Royal Green Jackets and a further 27 who served in former regiments of the Rifles. War Cloister was dedicated on 31 May 1924 and the College is observing the Centenary during this, its centenary year.
On 2 May 2024, it will host an evening for Old Wykehamist Green Jackets and other former members of the Royal Green Jackets to learn about War Cloister and to explore some of the stories that connect us. Please join us for a short tour and talk, followed by a reception in Armoury.
