Medal group of Lt-Col The Lord Ruthven

A medal group that may not be unique, but is certainly very unusual as it reflects the extraordinary length of service of the recipient, Lieutenant Colonel Lord Ruthven of The Rifle Brigade, extending over 64 years to include the Crimean War (1854-56), the South African War (1899-1902) and the First World War (1914-18).

Crosse family seal

The seal is one of a number of items relating to the Crosse family donated to the Museum following the death of Lieutenant-Colonel R.B. Crosse DSO*, formerly of The Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, in 1970.

Chairs from the palace of Ashanti King

The two chairs and two stools featured are among a number of items from the palace of King Kofi Karikari of the Ashantis now in the Museum.
